  • Concego updated a blog entry Why Cloud Computing ...

It is ironic that the computer era started with massive computers.  Then PCs had hard drives that were big in size but small in storage space.  In the 90s and early 2000s the reverse began to happen: the physical size of the hard drives began to shrink and the storage space began to increase. Terabytes of data these days can be stored on a hard disk as small as a pinhead.  Consequently, you can store on your hard disks all the information that you can gather in your lifetime and still have lots of free space. Why ironic?

With handheld and mobile devices gaining popularity throughout the world there is a greater need for constant connectivity and data availability.  Due to the line rapidly blurring between computers, laptops, smart phones and handheld devices like the iPad, we normally end up using the same applications and accessing the same data through different devices.

But in order to achieve that, the data, and to an extent the applications that process that data, need to be on a server so that they can be accessed while you are on the move and via whatever device you happen to be carrying.

Normally when you install software applications you have to purchase licenses either for individual machines or in bulk.  This is often very expensive for big as well as small organizations.  Maintenance and upgrading also involves lots of expense in terms of money and time. Conventional software applications also come with a slew of features and models you may never use, but still you have to pay for them because they come with the package.  This is an unnecessary cost and a strain on resources.

Enterprises these days are looking for more scalable solutions that can help them reduce costs without compromising on crucial business application functions.

Globalization means the executives, managers and decision-makers have to travel to different international locations and access their business applications and data from those locations whenever they need it.

Hence, the need for Cloud computing.

Cloud computing means that all your data and business applications reside on a “cloud”, that means on a remote server.  All you have to do is connect to the server using your Internet connection (whether you have it on your PC or smart phone) and use your business application.  And not just business applications, people these days are even storing their songs, images, documents and videos in the cloud (remote server) so that they can be accessed from anywhere.  But here we are talking about business applications.

There are 3 things that drive the popularity of cloud-hosted applications:

    • Scalability
    • Availability
    • Lower costs

    Scalability

The cloud-based applications can be easily and quickly scaled according to your particular needs.  You don’t need to invest in the entire gamut of application modules.  You can keep your applications sleek and smart by going for just those modules that you require

    Availability

Cloud-based applications can be accessed, as mentioned above, from anywhere, using any hardware, using any operating system platform.  You need an Internet connection, and you need a browser with contemporary capabilities.  There is no need to install something on your computer: you run all your applications and access all your data through your browser interface.  You don’t need to depend upon intermediaries or any technical staff; you just need to have the right sort of access.

    Lower costs

Cloud-based computing drastically reduces your costs.  As already mentioned, you pay for only what you use.  Cloud-based applications are mostly stand-alone; this means you can use individual modules without having to invest in other modules being provided by the software company.  The back-end and the application are maintained by the company that is providing you the cloud-based application.  The security of your data is guaranteed by the company so you don’t need to invest your own resources for that.  Maintenance too happens on its own and you don’t need to worry about routinely upgrading your software and keeping it up-to-date.

So, you get to use the state-of-the-art technology at a fraction of the cost you would have incurred using conventional software applications, and that too, from any hardware configurations.

More and more organizations are realizing the overwhelming benefits of using clout-based applications.  Precisely this is the reason Concego has embraced cloud technology to make cutting-edge business applications available to its clients.  It’s not that we simply want to remain contemporary: we actually see what a great potential cloud computing carries, for our clients and for ourselves.

The success of your enterprise depends on timely and accurate decision making, adaptability and flexibility and all these depend on the type of business intelligence processing capabilities you have.

During the times when the right kind of information means strategic advantage and power, business intelligence, broadly stated, is the information and data a company gathers from past experiences, present trends and future predictions, and their analysis, using specialized software tools. Ideal business intelligence setup can be a killer tool for your organization, helping you minimize risks and maximize profits. It helps you align a broad range of strategic, operational, product development and management processes, giving you the much-needed competitive advantage.

A business intelligence application can be a stand-alone tool or it can be an amalgamation of various specialized applications bundled as one software application giving you all the analytical, processing and reporting abilities at a single location.

Business intelligence has played a critical part in one form or another ever since entrepreneurs started using information to make their business decisions. Globalization has simply changed the way we access and process the information we have. Constant movement and international operations make it necessary that decision-makers can access vital data and analyze it from any location, using any compatible device running on any contemporary operating system. The SaaS model enables you to use your applications through your browser — all you need is an Internet connection. You get leaner but more powerful applications targeted towards specific decision-making requirements.

Concego has always been at the forefront of technology and innovation.  We believe in providing highly targeted solutions that keep the distractions and the unnecessary away and let you do exactly what you need to do at a specific moment.  Our business intelligence solution can be accessed via an Internet connection using any of the contemporary browsers. With our solution you don’t need to install heavy applications using expensive hardware.  Just fire up your browser, log into your dashboard and access the information from wherever you are, in whichever time zone, at whatever time. We don’t believe that you should be physically present where your data and the associated business intelligence modules are located.

The era of bloated software is ebbing away and business organizations are looking for solutions that are compatible with every major platform and delivered through the Cloud. Additionally, the idea of purchasing or leasing a software solution no longer remains appealing. When you purchase a software solution you need to install it, maintain it, keep it secure and update it frequently. Of course, you also need to invest in the hardware and keep spending money for its upkeep and security. Moreover, you also need space to keep that hardware and you need people to take care of it.

SaaS on the other hand brings you all the benefits of cutting-edge business intelligence solutions at a fraction of the traditional costs.  When you use software as a service you pay for as much as you use, nothing more and nothing less.  Normally when you go for a “package” 60% of the bundled features you may never use but pay for them all the same. The Concego business intelligence solution delivers you exactly what your business needs.
