Here is a great post by Darren Cunningham from Informatica Cloud, where he talks about two use cases for data integration delivered as an on-demand service that are driven by the IT organization and don’t involve cloud-based applications like Salesforce.com.

Both use cases are example of the IT organization taking advantage of cloud services to drive innovation while doing more with less. They're also becoming widely adopted cloud integration use cases for organizations investing in an Integration Competency Center (ICC) and Lean Integration.
