#DF11 – Dreamforce ’11: Day Two…Reborn Social!

We Are Cloud

While I was writing this post, I had the B52s (screaming) in the background. The DJ was playing one of their songs, they weren’t actually here in real life… although this wouldn’t have been unrealistic, seeing as during the opening Keynote of M.Benioff there were, amongst others, Neil Young and MC Hammer, who actually testified as being Salesforce users (Salesforce helped them during their tours, for example).

When Prince uses Bime to analyze the opportunity cost in banning the publishing of videos on Youtube… that will be the day icon smile #DF11 Dreamforce 11: Day Two...Reborn Social!

Analyze Facebook data via Salesforce.com?

Posted by: We Are Cloud

We Are Cloud

At the Dreamforce conference in San Francisco, Marc Benioff, chairman and CEO of Salesforce.com, and Steve Fisher, senior vice president of the platform division at Salesforce, demonstrate a recruiting program made possible by making Force.com's platform compatible with Facebook. When it comes to things like job recommendations, social networks are powerful venues that customers can now tap, they say.

Salesforce actually launched something similar 3 years back - a Facebook application for connecting data from the two services. Appropriately named Faceforce, the application allows you to see things like your contact record (which is kept in your Salesforce.com account) side-by-side with a user’s Facebook profile, assuming they are list as a friend.

What could this mean for Bime? Possibly an indirect connection to Facebook data, via Salesforce.com. Salesforce uses the Facebook API to collect data from the social networking site. Assuming it can be stored and accessed in Salesforce.com just as the rest of your CRM data, you may well be analyzing your Facebook data with Bime very soon!

Dell accounces acquisition of Boomi

Dell has just announced it has agreed to acquire Software-as-a-Service integration company Boomi. Terms of the deal were not disclosed and, as usual, the purchase is subject to customary closing conditions. Dell did not say when it expects to complete the purchase of the startup.

Dell chairman and CEO Michael Dell had yesterday teased the press about an impending acquisition in the cloud computing space (see Reuters).

The comment, made at an event in Hong-Kong, sparked a guessing game among tech reporters, but it turns out Dell is picking up a rather small company – Boomi has raised only $4 million in venture capital according to CrunchBase. Nevertheless, it’s a startup that does offer a compelling SaaS platform for many a company.

10 Tips for Small Business CRM Success

Posted by: Roy Hovey

Roy Hovey

eCRM Guide asked Salesforce.com (NYSE: CRM), NetSuite (NYSE: N) and SugarCRM for their tips on what to look for when purchasing a CRM system, as well as advice on how to make sure employees actually use the system and get the most out of it. Here are their responses.

1. Keep in mind who will be using the CRM system and plan (and buy) accordingly. "Try to define your rationale for installing a system up front before you begin discussion with vendors," suggested Scott Holden, director of product marketing at Salesforce.com. "Make sure that you put the user community at the center of defining your requirements. Too often CRM experts lead the selection and companies end up buying a complex solution that has comprehensive features but may not solve the user challenge."

That's why Holden advised business owners to "select a CRM system that works with the daily life of your users versus requiring users to change their everyday behavior. Today's sales, marketing and service professionals actively use tools like Microsoft Outlook and Google Apps for email and are accessing critical information on their mobile devices more often than at their desks. A solution that easily integrates into your users' daily workflow will accelerate adoption."
