Microsoft, Google, Cisco, Red Hat, and VMware also rank high up on a survey by IT consulting firm BTC Logic

Amazon and IBM are the "cloud champions" according to a new report, but Microsoft, Google, Cisco, Red Hat, and VMware are also among the list of heavyweights in the emerging cloud computing field.

All tech vendors are embracing the cloud. Even those that don't provide public cloud services are fighting to become the top builders of infrastructures to support emerging cloud networks.

A new quarterly report from BTC Logic, an IT consulting firm, attempts to rank the top cloud players, and puts them into seven broad categories: cloud foundations, infrastructure, network services, platforms, applications, security and management.

The Evolution of SaaS - Powered by Virtualization & Multi-tenancy

Posted by: Floyd Tucker

Floyd Tucker

The increased use of virtualization on all common server platforms provides greater server utilization and efficiency. Efficiency gains in utilization are also attributable to the sharing of computing capacity when multiple tenants are hosted on a single software instance. It stands to reason that multi-tenant software contributes to the efficiency of provisioning and administration, which enables applications to be provided at much lower cost.

Multi-tenant software allows new customer organizations to be easily implemented without an elaborate and separate installation of the application for each customer or the subsequent administration and maintenance. Yet the separation of the customer data, even the perception of the application by the customer, is as if they have a separate application running on their own servers.

 Informative post from CA World...

'Realizing IT to the Business Alignment with CA's Data Center of the Future' via The CA Cloud Storm Chasers by Meghan Stabler

For those that are not here at CA World 2010 you are missing some of the most significant announcements in the recent history of CA. First was the renaming, or rather rebranding of the company from CA Inc, to CA Technologies. Why is that significant to me? Well this is my second ‘tour of duty' having left CA back in 2000 after five years as an SVP of Global Marketing. At that time CA ‘Software Superior by Design' was in the process of being rebranded to ‘CA, Inc.' Yet even with this shift in brand name, design, colors and high-level message we also introduced CA's vision and strategy for managing the Data Center of the Future. A future that is highly virtualized, that takes advantage of the various cloud types, and that incorporates everything from physical to virtual, mainframe to distributed and beyond. This is significant to CA Technologies and customers.

Anthony M. Freed

Net Neutrality in the US and the Digital Economy Act in the UK are attempts by Governments to start to legislate the Internet.Certainly the Digital Economy Act in the UK was written to prevent the piracy of film, music, photography etc. For what it's worth I don't agree with the measures in the Act, which gives the Government power to checktraffic and potentially block sites involved in the breach of copyright...
